Meridian 480

Design Brief

Now in production Australia’s Gold Coast the Meridian 480 is designed to be a true long range cruising vessel. The 480 design focuses on comfort at sea for the whole crew and miserly fuel usage all in a contemporary and refreshing package styled by David Bentley.

The hull form was developed in the towing tank of the Australian Maritime College. It proved to be one of the most efficient hull forms tested to date at that facility. The highly efficient bows significantly reduce climbing spray and minimize slamming, improving both performance and comfort in a head sea. The aft hull tunnel configuration provides both grounding protection for the prop and rudder as well as lowering the trim angle to a near negligible 1.5 degrees. Wing deck clearance is in excess of commercial standards to maximize sea keeping when the going gets tough. Finally, the rudders flow from Jutson’s years of experience in performance yacht design and give you finger tip control downhill- something not found in most other power cats.
