53´ Open Flybridge Power Catamaran

Design Brief

This design is based around the needs of a family of 5 for comfortable long range cruising in an easy to care for, low maintenance platform. Special attention has been placed on the styling to insure the vessel is easy to build as a one off. It is suitable for construction in composite or aluminium.

Extensive sea trials over three weeks allowed the boat to operate in a wide range of conditions and she passed all tests with flying colors. Probably the most telling was her ability to maintain an average speed of 17 knots at 2900 RPM into a 2 meter (6 1/2 foot) head sea fed by 20 - 25 knot winds in the shallow waters of Moreton Bay. It was not until the wind exceeded 30 knots and the seas peaked at 2.5 meters (8 foot plus) that passenger comfort dictated slowing down. In these conditions the boat was comfortably steered from the inside helm station.

The boat is powered by twin Yanmar 230hp engines allowing for a top speed of 21 knots. The sweet spot for cruising is 15 knots where she will sit all day quite comfortably with excellent economy.
